Scot's blog
I recently purchased some software from my old company and I am trrying to get the license transferred into my name. Yesterday I called the 800 number and spoke with a woman for about 30 minutes just to get a case number, which I did. I logged in today and still did not have an open case. I decided to use the live chat feature to find out why.
Below is a live chat with Adobe support. I was lucky enough to copy it, because if I tried to explain it I would surely leave something out. This whole exchange took approximately 35 minutes & you won't believe it.
Thank you for choosing Adobe. A representative will be with you shortly. Your estimated wait time is 0 minute(s) and 22 second(s) or longer as there are 1 customer(s) in line ahead of you.

Sandesh: Hello, welcome to Adobe Customer Service.
-
Scot Edgell: Hello
-
Sandesh: Hi Scot Edgell.
-
Sandesh: Please give me a moment to review your request and help you with that.
-
Scot Edgell: Thank you
-
Sandesh: I understand that you are not able to view the case number 203071840 under the support portal, right?
-
Scot Edgell: That is correct. It tells me I have no cases at this time.
-
Sandesh: I'll be glad to help you with this.
-
Scot Edgell: Can I get an email address to send the License Transfer document to instead?
-
Sandesh: Scot, I have located your account and see that there is no case number found.
-
Scot Edgell: The representative I spoke to yesterday told me that it would appear on the customer support portal.
-
Sandesh: Was this case number provided to you over the phone?
-
Scot Edgell: yes
-
Scot Edgell: 203071840 was the number given
-
Sandesh: Okay.
-
Sandesh: I have checked there is no case number, however let me help you with your issue.
-
Scot Edgell: Great!
-
Scot Edgell: I have 4 License Transfer docs in one PDF file that I need to submit in order to do an upgrade to Adobe Creative Suite
-
Sandesh: Can I have the serial number for the product?
-
Scot Edgell: All of them? There is Photoshop, Indesign & Illustrator CS + Creative Suite CS 2. Which one do you want first?
-
Scot Edgell: Can't you just supply a case number so I can upload this PDF?
-
Sandesh: Let me try to locate the serial numbers under your account.
-
Scot Edgell: They aren't in my account because I just purchased them from my old company that went out of business. I want to register them under my name instead of my old company's name to be legal.
-
Sandesh: Scot, since you have purchased the product from your company you will have to first get a transfer of licensing done from your company's name to your name for all the products. Once it is done all the products will be under your name.
-
Scot Edgell: I DID! That's what I'm trying to upload as a PDF. The documents are filled out and signed already.
-
Sandesh: Since I'm not able to pull up the case number can I have the serial numbers for the products?
-
Scot Edgell: The serial numbers are on the Transfer of License forms I am trying to submit to you.
-
Sandesh: Was the transfer of License request sent from your account or from your company's account?
-
Scot Edgell: I haven't sent it yet because I don't have an open case on your customer support portal in which to upload the files. That is the reason I contacted you today. Where do I submit the Transfer forms? Can I send them in an email to someone?
-
Sandesh: Thank you for waiting. One moment please.
-
Sandesh: I'll be right with you.
-
Sandesh: Thank you for staying online.
-
Sandesh: Scot, do you have the license form signed by your company and you handy?
-
Scot Edgell: Yes.
-
Sandesh: Great.
-
Sandesh: I'll explain you how to submit the form.
-
Sandesh: I would request you to login to your Adobe account and then select Customer Support Portal.
-
Scot Edgell: I am logged in already.
-
Sandesh: Okay.
-
Sandesh: Please select Serial Number at the bottom.
-
Scot Edgell: OK
-
Sandesh: Then select product registration.
-
Scot Edgell: OK
-
Sandesh: Select Proceed to Online form.
-
Scot Edgell: What should I fill in?
-
Sandesh: Fill in all the details in the (asterisk) and then at the bottom attach the form and submit the request.
-
Sandesh: Scot, once you submit the the request you will get a new case number.
-
Sandesh: With this case number please contact the Phone support and they will transfer the License to your account.
-
Scot Edgell: Thank you
I told you!
In the 8 months that have passed since I started as an account manager, I have come to the realization that it's far easier to talk about a specific service, when you actually have a specific service in which to sell. Telling potential customers that you'd like to "sell them some printing" doesn't quite cut it when seeking out new business. So...I've decided to use this blog to explain a few things.
At PrintPro and parent company Graphic Communications Specialists, we specialize in print procurement. If you need something, we can do it for you - if we do not have the capacity, we will find someone who does. Whether it's our first choice of local vendors, or whether it's more cost-effective to go outside the area, we always find the lowest price with the best quality. Now, you may be asking yourself, 'Why would I have him do that when I can just do it myself?' That's a very valid question for sure. In particular, those you who send out jobs for bid may wonder, "Where's the value for me?". Here's the top 5 reasons to take a look at us.
1. Experience. With over 25 years of print buying experience, we understand that every print job has a home - that specific piece of equipment that gets the job done as efficiently as possible. Our customers' jobs never run on equipment that almost fits the task. From black-and-white digital machines to full-sized web presses and everything in between, we find the right equipment and services that best match your specific requirements.
2. Knowledge. We have also been on the production side of a print shop for 25 plus years. We'll work with you to head of potential problems before they become costly ones.
3. Service. We treat every one of our customers as if they were our only customer. We follow the print job from start to finish, and take the time to answer questions. Thus taking the mystery and confusion out of the print buying process.
4. Value. Your print dollars are stretched by leveraging the vast array of technology and equipment available. We provide a valuable resource for small to mid-sized businesses that lack the personnel, or experience to source printing efficiently, or that lack the volume to secure the most competitive pricing. For the large enterprises, we offer complete printing supply chain management that will change the way you look at printing.
5. Eco-Friendly. We understand the nuances of printing "green" and can support your commitment to environmental considerations throughout the print supply chain from soy based ink to recycled paper. We do not print on paper produced from irresponsibly harvested forest products, and we maintain a readily available supply of 100% post-consumer-waste papers that's available without cost premiums, special handling fees or rush charges-EVER!
Hope this post helped shed a little light. Please comment and I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have.
Along time ago, in a print shop far, far away.... OK, may be not THAT long ago, and perhaps not that far away either; I began my career. It didn't start with a bang or a flash; more of a steady slide from a Senior High School Graphic Arts class, directly into the printing field. Do not pass GO, do not collect $200. 'Back in the day' (as we older people sometimes say) prepress was a far cry from what it has morphed into in a short 23 + years. We were craftsmen...a trade within a trade; working with our hands and eyes. Using our collective experience, and knowledge of the materials, to produce the best possible outcome; and realizing the customer's dreams in print.
Today we have - CTP, FTP, JPG, EPS, and PDF. Not only did we have to learn a whole new language, but also a new way of thinking. Workstations replaced light tables, and digital files replaced the artboard. A once difficult effect to achieve on film became commonplace; and the wheels flew off the cart of convention. Printers learned the graphics programs; bridging the gap between design and print, and soon the designers were becoming prepress experts, and the prepress experts were becoming designers. Those of us who embraced the new technology became irreplaceable, while those who resisted were soon outmoded. The whole industry morphed into something new, right before our very eyes. Exciting? You better believe it!
I still marvel at the speed of the changes since the day when I first picked up an exacto-knife, gently pressed it into a masking sheet, and stripped the piece away to reveal the negative beneath. It's amazing really, and I'm fortunate to have witnessed it. So with each passing year and each new breakthrough, I say...'Bring it!'.
