FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WOMEN’S SMALL BUSINESS WEEK OFFERS SEMINARS, EXHIBITS AND NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES

PITTSBURGH (June 2009)—The Women’s Small Business Association is proud to announce Women’s Small Business Week, from July 13 through July 16, 2009. This five-day event will offer participants the opportunity to attend seminars led by industry experts, showcase their businesses by participating in exhibit booths, network with other professionals, and interview with business owners offering new opportunities. Seminars and exhibit booths will focus on topics important to today’s business women and will provide information for personal and professional growth.

The event includes the following: Marketing A Small Business, how to market a small business on a minimal budget; Health & Wellness for Better Business, how to protect a business owner’s most important asset, their health; Financial Strategies During a Recession, financial strategies that will keep the recession from having an impact on one’s business; Career and Business Opportunities, information on what businesswomen will need to make an informed decision on a career change or income supplement.

The Women’s Small Business Week will be a time to celebrate the many achievements of women entrepreneurs and employees who contribute to the local and regional economy. The cost to attend each event varies, from $30 to $35. The price to exhibit is $50 to $60 per event.

The Women’s Small Business Association was founded in 2007 by Susan Miller, owner of Pittsburgh Candle Company and Miller Promotions. The goal of the WSBA is to have business women help each other, and for businesswomen to have the opportunity to network without the hefty membership fees usually associated with other organizations.

To exhibit at the Women’s Small Business Week, or for more information on the WSBA, please visit www.wsba.ws.

Description:

Growing up, did you have someone who you looked to for guidance, support and encouragement? Unfortunately, not every young person has a mentor. The Mentoring Partnership of Southwestern PA has been leading the local movement to connect young people with caring adults. As a resource to more than 140 local programs, they continually work to know what mentoring programs exist, the level to which those programs meet best practices, and the needs of those programs.

Right now in Southwestern Pennsylvania, there are more than 25,000 youth being mentored through local programs but also a substantial waiting list. Every other year, The Mentoring Partnership hosts The Magic of Mentoring - an event held to honor the dedication of key leaders and their work to support mentoring, to celebrate exemplary mentoring programs and to raise funds to support the Mentoring Partnership.

PRSA Pittsburgh's Public Service Committee is working with the Mentoring Partnership on this year's event. From coordinating logistics and generating publicity to securing sponsorships and everything in between, the Public Service Committee has been charged to make 2009's Magic of Mentoring event the best one yet.

This year's event will feature a spectacular silent auction and special recognition to the Burke Family (Charlie, Patsy, Steve & Chip) as well as local mentoring honorees.

WAYS YOU CAN GET INVOLVED

Come to the event. Join us on October 29, 2009 at Heinz Field for cocktails, heavy hors d'oeuvres, and decadent desserts while we celebrate the Magic of Mentoring. You'll have the opportunity to network, catch up with friends and colleagues and rub elbows with local celebrities. Register for the event online by visiting the Magic of Mentoring website at http://www.mentoringpittsburgh.org/news-and-events_magic-mentoring-09.aspx .

Sponsor the Magic of Mentoring. Encourage your workplace to join corporate sponsors that include PNC and Highmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield in supporting the Magic of Mentoring. Sponsorship packages are available in a variety of denominations and include an array of benefits, including recognition in the event program and prominent display of your company's logo. Secure a sponsorship by contacting Sarah Cassella (SACassella@uss.com) or Stacey Pabis (babyaksm@gmail.com).

Donate to the Silent Auction. One of the highlights of the event, the silent auction draws friendly competition as unique experiences, sports memorabilia and event packages are offered to the highest bidder. PRSA Pittsburgh has already contributed a behind-the-scenes tour of the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium, and we encourage fellow members to consider making an in-kind contribution to help make the auction a success. For more information or to donate an item, please email Sarah Cassella (SACassella@uss.com) or Stacey Pabis (babyaksm@gmail.com).

Advertise in the program. Would your business or organization benefit from reaching approximately 1,200 people in Southwestern Pennsylvania? Then, support the Mentoring Partnership while getting your message in front of a crucial audience by advertising in the Magic of Mentoring program! Ads only cost $500 for a full page, $250 for a half-page and $150 for a quarter-page. Take advantage of this great opportunity today. Contact Kristan Allen (kristan.allen@ketchum.com) or Shilo Raube (shiloraube@gmail.com) for details. (Artwork is due October 1, 2009, and space is limited!)

Thank you in advance for your support.

2009 PRSA Pittsburgh Public Service Committee

Shilo Raube (chair), Kristan Allen, Elizabeth Bacheson, Suzanne Basista , Emily Bayer, Sarah Cassella, Dana Hanzlik, Sarah McCluan, and Stacey Pabis.

Jim Toner's Wealth Builders hosts FREE Real Estate Investing Workshop!

Have you ever wondered if Real Estate Investing would be right for you?
Do you really have what it takes to be successful?

Q: Is real estate still a good investment?

A: Yes! No matter what the economy is doing, houses will always hold more potential for profit than just about any other business you can transact. There will always be families and individuals who want and need to buy a house. By the same token there will always be people who need to sell a house. Once you understand the mechanisms involved, all you have to do as an investor is put those two parties together and reap the profit. That's an oversimplification of course so the important thing is to learn the proper steps to take, the contacts to know and the ways to maximize your profit. There are many ways to learn, but we have found that learning from someone who is experienced and can show you the ropes works best.

Q: How much can I make?

A: That depends on many factors, including you! There are hundreds of homes bought and sold every month, right here, in your own town. Someone earned a profit on every transaction. How many do you want? How many would you need to change your financial picture? Are you willing to invest the time and effort to get the training you need to turn this possibility into reality in your life? Andrew Carnegie said "more millionaires have created their wealth through real estate than any other endeavor" In other words, your potential is unlimited.

Q: Can anybody do it?

A: The beauty of the real estate business is that it doesn't take a college degree, you don't have to take a state exam and you don't need to join a special association. With your intelligence, some basic tools like a computer, a fax machine and a phone, you can be in business just as soon as you're ready. We have mentored single moms, attorneys, contractors, self-employed people, unemployed - you name it. The key is to get you to the point where you are confident - where you know what you're doing... and it shows. Some people are naturally self-confidant. Others can really benefit by knowing their Wealth Builders Mentor is always available to answer questions.

Description:

Last year body language expert, and University of Pittsburgh professor, Bill Acheson spoke at what came to be OVConnect's largest and most well-received event of its existence.  Through his generosity and the good grace of Zeus, Bill's agreed to come back down on Thursday August 20th, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.

If you saw him last year, you won't want to miss this year's event.  Seriously, this guy's for real.  He's spoken all ovre the world to Fortune 500 companies and even developed custom programs for sales teams for major global organizations.

Bill will present even more information this year in two specific areas: Professional (e.g. reading the body movements of a prospective client) and Social (e.g. what it means when your date has her or his feet pointed towards you when speaking). Through his 'edutainment', you'll be laughing so hard you won't realize how much you learned until the evening ends.

To give you an idea of what you should expect, here are some specific topics Bill adressed during last year's presentation:

What a handshake tells you
How to identify deception from both competent and incompetent liars
The differences in peripheral vision between men and women
How can you demonstrate your own personal authority without saying a word
Understanding the basis of rapport building from listening behavior to conscious and subconscious nonverbal cues

It's our philosophy that someone working at a Fortune 500 company has as much to learn from a small Mom & Pop business about the application of social media, as well as the other way around. If you are open-minded and willing to go outside your comfort zone, then this conference is for you. If you're not open-minded, well, we'd still like to have you attend and see if we can change that."

Do you want to show your interns how much you appreciate them? Do you want to let other area interns know about your internship program? Sign your interns up for the Interns Summer Program 2010!

The Interns Summer Program 2010 is a series of events that highlight the Pittsburgh region. The Summer Program, as part of your internship program, allows your intern to talk with other interns and community members about your organization!

The Summer Program adds value to any company's internship program, by providing interns with a social outlet, allowing them to network with one another, and serving as ambassadors for their company or university. The greatest outcome of the Summer Program is showcasing the region to hundreds of interns, the majority of whom are not from Pittsburgh. Historically, internships often transition into full-time job offers, thus retaining a good number of talented young people and adding them to the region's workforce. The cost of the Summer Program is $50 per intern, which gives them all-access to each of the events listed below:

    Description:

    Hi everyone!
This is our monthly event now held at Little E\'s Jazz Club in Pittsburgh. America's most livable city.

I have been fortunate to put on this event now for a little over a year. Over 2,000 people have attended this event since it's inception.
Folks get a chance to meet other Jazz fans, get away from the house... for a few hours as well as enjoy great music food and drink. We also give away CD's and have lots of fun, of course. It's a great way to entertain weekend guests and show them part of our awsome Jazz scene. And....there\'s no charge to attend!!!

Our "house band" for the event is Luther DeJaurnett, Vince Taglieri and Howie Alexander. We also have guest musicians sit in on the session each month.

The event is sponsored by The New Pittsburgh Courier, Soul-Patrol.com, Nu Groove Records and Shanachie Entertainment
